The new name has been chosen. . .

new car
Originally uploaded by sharjoy18.
Today, on the anniversary of the purchase date, I have selected a new name for my car. Before I announce the winner, I would like to say thank you to all my friends and family who nominated and voted for a new name. So the winner gets an all inclusive ride in my car, which means a trip to Ritas or another place of the winners choosing, within reason (keep in mind I am a poor christian school teacher). Consolation prizes will vary according to what state you live in, or if you live around here.

The 3rd Runner up is Bob, nominated by Chad Skaran
The 2nd Runner up is Fanny, nominated by Christina Porter
The 1st Runner up is Jiminy, nominated by Jaime Ostergard
THE WINNER IS CAPTAIN JACK, nominated by Lesli Nichols. Although Luke Forman came up with Jack, Lesli added extra flare with the Captain title. My car will be called Jack for short, so Luke, you can consider yourself part winner.

THE TOP TEN!

For one final and last time, the voting on the naming of my new "pre-owned" car. For a picture, once again, scroll down my blog to see it under the entry "a new name for a new car". I have had many requests for a new top ten, because I have had many more suggestions given since my top three was posted. . . So here they are in random order:

1. Leroy
2. Bob or the Bobster
3. Jiminy Cricket
4. Captain Jack
5. Fanny
5. Polo- Hawaiin for fatso
6. Big Momma
7. Poo-"if you have any poo. . . fling it now!"
8. Bullet
9. Super Beetle
10. Raven

So vote away! The winner will be announced on the car's one month b-day which will be on August 24th. #7-10 were given by my neice and nephews, Jordan, Amber and Luke.

lessons learned

arm wrestle
Originally uploaded by sharjoy18.
Lessons learned this past week. . . (starting with the less serious).

1. Do not arm wrestle a guy named "Pedro" at a pizza shop. Actually I was pressured into it, but now looking at the picture it seems that he enjoyed it a little too much. Afterward I thoroughly washed the hands. . . eeww gross!

2. Do not allow someone (aka Nathan) to take your shoe and throw it out his car window in the middle of traffic on Broad Street.

3. Do not go see Talledega Nights. . . trust me!

4. On the more serious side. . . be thankful for your friends that God has given you. I am so thankful for the friends God has given me. There were times the past few months where I felt alone, but God was always there and He brought unexpected friends into my life to encourage me.

5. Pray for your friends, even when things are not stressed or strained. It's easy to pray when things are difficult, but we often forget to pray for others when life is calm. I have been blessed with friends who are there to pray for me and I am thankful that God brings them to mind to pray for them.

and the winner is. . .

NO ONE YET! I have yet to decide who will win the contest of naming my new car. Remember to keep voting and adding suggestions. Hopefully soon there will be a name and a winner. The winner will receive an all-inclusive ride in my new vehicle the next time they're in PA! I know, the stakes are high. . .but don't let that stop you from voting.

Rebeka--we are awaiting your ingenious suggestions to see if you can beat what has already been given.

Thanks to Luke, Jaime and Chad for their suggestions making the top three. If you do not win, you will all receive a consolation prize once the winner has been announced.

THE TOP THREE!

I have narrowed down the choices for naming my car to the top three. Their were some expectations that the name had to meet. It could not be too long of a name. The name also needed to be able to have nicknames as well. For instance my last car Stella was called Stella, Stell-bell, or Stellar depending on the circumstance. So If you have any other suggestions still that are not part of the top three, you may still leave them, otherwise just vote for your favorite.

IN RANDOM ORDER:
1. Jack (It was derived from the Black Pearl to Jack Sparrow, to Jack via Luke Forman)

2. Jiminy Cricket or Jiminy for short (my car has an alarm that chirps, so Jaime Ostergard suggested this name)

3. Bob or the Bobster (this one came last night when I was driving down to Philly via Chad Skaran). I also thought of combining 2 and 3 to Jiminy billy-Bob.

Happy Voting:o)

just an update on life

Sorry no picture this time. I didn't have the patience today to upload some new pictures. Recently, I have been working some temp jobs. The one that I am currently at a bit boring, but it pays well. All I do at this current job is copy, shred and file, copy, shred and file. . . etc. I am in a room by myself all day (except for lunch break) with no windows to the outside world. . . but thankfully I have my ever-faithful iPod to help past the time. I only have 3 more days left on that job (wed.-fri. this week) and then I will be at my church camp (Camp Calvary) for two weeks. I am excited to go to camp to counsel again. This year I am counseling for Junior camp #3 and Sr. High camp #1.

This summer so far has been suprisingly full. There hasn't been much down time, as I had thought, but a definite change of pace. Summers usually consist of staying up late and waking up late as much as possible, and not feeling guilty one bit for doing it. Weekends are full of whatever kind of activity we can drum up. Last night we cooked out some shishkabobs and other various things, then we played a very aggressive game of spoons. For the fourth of July I am not sure what I am doing yet. Some of my friends are going down to Philly and my family is staying in the area and having a cook-out at the house. So now I have to make the decision on which activity I would prefer to go to. . . So what is everybody else doing for the fourth???

Last week Rebecca and Michael Saunders were in from Guam. It was a nice suprise to see them. Michael was taking a Seminary class at our seminary and since Rebecaa is from this area, she came along.

So that is the basic update of happenings here the past couple weeks. God has been showing me a lot lately. I don't know what He is planning for me for the future, but there has been some open doors that I am praying about.

twins???

twins
Originally uploaded by sharjoy18.

It freaked Anna out so much that she couldn't even talk to Jen with out getting weirded out. Jen is 2 years older than Anna, but aren't the similarities remarkable????? When Jen was my roommate my sophomore year, she reminded me so much of Anna (who I went to High school with). They even have the same bubbly personality, ya know the kind that could host a talkshow or a show on TLC.

Moving on past the long lost twins finally meeting. . . I can not say how much I am enjoying the freedoms of summer. The joy of staying up late without feeling weighed down by the early morning the next day. Anybody plan any big trips for the summer? If I had the funds I would travel the world during my summer breaks, but since I am trying to save up to move out. . . the world will have to wait.

A week into summer vacation. . .

Last Day 2
Originally uploaded by sharjoy18.
Well, it is officially a week into summer vacation and I feel like it's been a month! The picture is of my class on the last day of school, right before lunch, awards and parties. One of students is hiding behind a desk. . . gotta love that 5th grade humor:o)

The last couple days of school went by quickly, from there I haven't really slowed down. I have had follow up teacher stuff, and actually have been catching up on my social life. There's nothing like summer break. I am so thankful God brought me to a job where I have one. Now, I know all of you non-teachers think that it would be sooo easy to be a teacher and have summer breaks. . . but after pulling 10-16 hour days all school year long, I think a little rest is needed to be ready for the next batch of cherubs to enter my classroom.

Tomorrow I head down to Ocean City for a couple days vacation with my family (who is already down there). I waited to go down because Jen Ostergard was here visiting, and I wanted to hang out with her while she was here. On a side note, Jen met her long lost twin, Anna Munro, this weekend at our camp. . . both of them freaked out when they saw each other. I'll post pictures later of both of them. . . it's really uncanny how similiar they are.

light at the end of the tunnel

I only have 3 more school days left! I am sooooo excited to have summer break and a little rest and relaxation. Things have been super busy, but good. Just the usual ending of the year whatnot. Since it was my first year teaching Elementary, things seemed to take me a little longer.

Last week I flew down to Florida on Wednesday evening to help Mark and Jen Corbin move up to this area. While in the airport waiting to board after a long delay, I then realized why we were stuck at the gate. Air Force One was at Philly airport so nothing could land or take off while it was there. I'd like to think that George W. waved at me through the window. . . but I doubt it:o) Anyway, Thursday morning we started the long drive back to PA with a train of moving vans and cars. We arrived back in PA early Saturday morning around 1 am. We probably would have arrived earlier, but we hit a 10 mile back up due to an overturned tractor trailer in Morresville, North Carolina. All in all the trip went smoothly, but by the end I was ready to not be in a car for a good long time.

Field Trip. . . a success!

liberty bell
Originally uploaded by sharjoy18.
This is a picture of two of my students, Hunter and Abe, at the Liberty Bell (in case you couldn't tell by the picture). The field trip went by smoothly, despite my nervousness. I did not lose any students, and we were able to get to everything on the schedule.

We spent most of the day at The National Constitution Center. The students were able to go through the interactive exhibits, being able to vote for ammendments and be sworn in as President. They were also able to take pictures with life size bronze statues of the signers of the constitution. From there, we watched a presentation called "Freedom Rising", tracing the founding of our constitution to the present. After we left The National Constitution Center, we walked two blocks to the Liberty Bell and waited in line to go through security (which is as bad as in an airport). They were all able to spend time looking at the History of the Liberty Bell and to take pictures by it.

It was a good day in the end, and we even had beautiful weather despite the weather forecast. Thank the Lord! I am glad that this field trip is done for the year, so I can now focus on the end of the year--just 10 more school days to go!

finally sunshine!

After a few days of rain, and indoor recess, I am thankful for the sun shining brightly today! It is the calm before the storm, because the rest of this week it is supposed to rain and have scattered thunderstorms. I am praying that the rain holds off on Friday for my 5th grade field trip to Philadelphia. There will be nothing like standing in the rain to see the Liberty Bell, and to climb into a bus with wet and smelly 5th graders for the ride home!

Today we had a teacher appreciation lunch. Teacher appreciation week was last week, but our administration gave us our lunchean today. They came in with the works from Panera Bread! It was FANTABULOUS!!!! From the sandwiches, to the french bagettes, salad, cookies and of course their crunchers chips, I overstuffed myself once again! Perhaps I will end up like the wedding picture in my previous post after all!!! The principal even took our kids out to recess, so I got a longer lunch break to enjoy the fun, food and fellowship.

Today is a day full of little blessings! I love to see how God works and blesses us in little ways when we least expect it! Any of you have any little blessings that you would like to share?

my future. . .

yuck!
Originally uploaded by sharjoy18.
Don't you just love this picture of my future wedding? Guess I've put on a few hundred pounds. . . just kidding! This picture is just so gross. . . I can't imagine having roles of fat on your calf! YUCK! But it goes to show that there is still hope for all of us single folks. . . to each their own.

As far as an update on life, I want to thank every one for their prayers over this past month and especially this past week. God has been so faithful, and somehow everytime I am blown away by it (even though He's always there).

A week from today is my field trip. . . AAAAAAAHHHH! There is something about planning fields trips that puts me way out of my comfort zone. I guess it's the possibility of losing a child in Philadelphia, getting lost, or having the parent's disapprove. It's a weird thing to have chaperone's that are old enough to be your parents, or are parents of your high school friends. . . which are the joys of teaching where you grew up.

This weekend proves to be a busy one. I am hanging out with my friend Rebeka tonight. Tomorrow is a baby shower for Dana, and going down to Chestnut Hill later that night to catch up with my friend Becky. Sunday will be time to get ready for school that comes so early monday morning. Anybody else have any big plans for the weekend? Does it seem that weekends fly right on by to anyone else?

The Love of God

The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,
And reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
And pardoned from his sin.

O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure
The saints’ and angels’ song.

Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above,
Would drain the ocean dry.
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure
The saints’ and angels’ song.

I wanted to leave this hymn as my post today. There is nothing more precious than the Love of God to me! Amidst the hurt and frustration that comes with life, and choosing to do the hard right thing, God's Love comforts my soul! Last night once again, I was drawn to some of my favorite Psalms, to refocus and comfort my soul. God's love encompasses all seemingly bad and upsetting circumstances. He draws me closest when I feel the weakest!!

Miscellaneous Ramblings

Papa, Amber and Luke
Originally uploaded by sharjoy18.
Well, first off this is a picture of my Dad, my neice Amber and my nephew Luke. This picture was also taken while my sister Sarah was out here for a week visiting. We had a big cook-out dinner on one of the evenings. This picture was right after we consumed dinner and were waiting to make room for dessert. Speaking of desserts. . . stressed spelled backwards is desserts! Guess there is really a reason why we're drawn to desserts when we're stressed:o)

Since I've blogged last, here are the happenings of my life. School is busy as usual and I am in the midst of figuring out details to our field trip to Philadelphia. Do any of you have fun memories from your younger days on field trips???

I went to see a play friday night that homeschoolers put on in our area. It would not have been half bad if it didn't last 2 1/2 hours long!!!! Plus it was a friday night, when I usually zonk out by 9 pm! I went with the Farnham clan and it was enjoyable to be with them.

Saturday I slept in late because I took nyquil the night before. I have this awful cold as a result of my allergies. Dana, my sister-in-law, said that she does not get allergies when she is pregnant! So maybe that is what I'll have to do. . . just kidding!!!! Saturday evening, I went over to my friend Rebeka's house for a lovely dinner. All the boys were there (Dan, Dave, Brad, Micah, Paul, and Jarred) and of course they outnumbered us girls (Rebeka, Jarrion, Diana and myself). I can't say I particularly enjoyed all the boys company, due to circumstances out of my control, but on the whole it was enjoyable. I would say more, but the boys tend to read this and talk about it amongst themselves. So to avoid further complications, I will keep my mouth shut! I know it's a first. . . khehehehe:o)

So how was everybody else's week/weekend? Anything exciting to report of?

Welcome Home Pat!

I have just come from Pat Farnham's memorial service. It was such a blessing to see how many people one life can impact! I've only known her for less than a year, and I am so thankful that the Lord had put her in my life for that brief time. She was just a genuine person who reached out to anyone and everyone! Today was a bit rough trying to get through the day without dissolving into tears. I walked through the foyer mid-day and found pictures of her set up for this evening's service. I merely glanced and tears came flowing out of my eyes. God was good and allowed me to get through the rest of the day without breaking down in front of my students.

Tonight during the service, each grandchild wrote a note that was read. Her grandson, Tyler, who is a student in my class, is a very good writer. When his letter was read, I lost it and dissolved into tears. My 8-year-old nephew who was sitting next to me, starting to rub my back to make sure I was OK. It is such a bitter-sweet thing to miss someone you've grown to love, and knowing now that they are in the presence of the Lord!

I was recalling this past week, the many good memories I had with Pat. She was my hairdresser for this past year, and the first time she highlighted my hair she was so nervous. Afterwards, she would come up to me at church, just to check out her own handiwork! Another memory was when I went over to her house for my Birthday. She had bought me a T-Shirt that says "Major Attitude" because she thought I gave her "attitude". Well, most of the time she egged it on herself. We definitely knew how to get each other.

The last thing I wanted to leave on tonight's post, as I know it is getting long, is the poem that was on the program:

Safely Home
I am home in Heaven, dear ones:
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed:
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.
And he came Himself to meet me
In that way so hard to tread:
And with Jesus' arm to lean on,
Could I have one doubt or dread?
Then you must not greive so sorely,
For I love you dearly still
Try to look beyond earth's shadows,
Pray to trust our Father's Will.
There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand:
Do it now, while life remaineth--
You shall rest in Jesus' land.
When that work is all completed.
He will gently call you Home:
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!

Today was Pat's 63rd Birthday! Welcome Home Pat!

an update on Pat

Last night Pat went home to be with the Lord. They brought the grandchildren in yesterday to say goodbye and then they took her off life-support. She is now in the presence of the Lord, which is far better! Thanks for your prayers and I ask that you will continue to pray for the family as they plan the funeral and memorial service for Monday. Also pray for financial needs as well. Due to circumstances beyond Pat's control, she did not have medical issurance. Some of the expenses will be covered by the car insurance because it was a car accident.

On a more serious note I have an urgent prayer request. There is a lady in our church named Pat Farnham who was in a serious car accident on Saturday afternoon. I have grown to love Pat and her family since I have been back home after college. The outcome looks grave, so I ask that you would pray. If she does make it, the doctor's are unsure of how much cognitive ability she will have if any. Tomorrow and Wednesday are really big days, the doctors are going to take her off the drugs that were used for pain and stopping the internal bleeding. They are going to see if there is any brain activity or response. Right now, there is no brain activity and she has not come out of her coma since the accident. She is a believer, so please pray for her family. She has three adult children and 8 grandchildren. The children's names are Laney, Lesli and Mark. Pat was a very active lady and this has come as a shock to her family. Thanks for your prayers!

a week with the family

We ate A LOT and relaxed outdoors, we also got this lovely family picture of all 17 of us! Afterward we went up to camp to let the little ones play. . . until the adults could play no more. I'll post more pictures later of the week but this one will have to do for right now.
